Boys Varsity Football, Boys Varsity Wrestling · Jake Mumper ’20 leads way on and off the mat

On the mat, he’s a perfect 27-0.

In the classroom, he holds a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Not only is he the top ranked wrestler in the district. He is the top ranked student in his class.

“Jake is a delight to have in class. His kind-hearted and funky personality helps illuminate classes and his work ethic is very apparent due to his grades and participation in school events. Jake is a natural leader both in and outside the classroom and stands as great example of what Roger Bacon strives for.” says his AP Biology teacher, Mr. Hetzer.

Jake is putting together one of the best seasons in Roger Bacon Wrestling history. Through January 31st, he holds a perfect 27-0 record with 19 pins. He wrestles in the 152lb weight class and recently moved up to 4th all time in career pins (53).

Head wrestling coach, Jimmy Spears, states “Jake is the kind of athlete that doesn’t come around very often. He is that young man that not only makes our team better, but makes the whole school better. On top of being a multi-sport athlete he is also an excellent student. He is the definition of a student-athlete. I find work in the classroom to be even more impressive than the undefeated record he currently holds. Jake is a very hard worker and leads our team by example everyday in practice. Sometimes Jake makes it look so easy on the mat, that I sometimes forget how much work he puts into his craft. I am looking forward to seeing where Jake can go with this magical season. He is a young man that deserves nothing but success. He is, without a doubt, one of the best wrestlers that I have ever had the pleasure to coach.”

Jake’s career wrestling record is currently 84-17 and he has been named 2nd Team All-GCL Co-ed twice in his high school career.

On top of leading the wrestling team, Jake also was a leader on the gridiron this past fall. Jake was a captain of the football team this year that went 10-2 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2010. Jake was named to 1st Team All MVC this past season.

“Jake Mumper is one of the hardest working players we have had in the program over the last few years. He was voted a captain because all the players around him know he puts 100% into everything he does. He put in the time to be successful in the weight room which translated to a great football career. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that he is undefeated in wrestling and having a legendary year.   His work ethic and drive will carry him very far this postseason,”  says head football coach Mike Blaut.

Jake looks to improve his record in the home stretch of the regular season before the league tournament and postseason tournament start. To view their schedule, click here.
