Spartans traveled to Beechmont Avenue on Tuesday night for a road matchup vs league leading McNicholas.
Spartans got off to a rough start and trailed by 9 after the first quarter where Nick Hughes ’22 helped put RB on the scoreboard as he scored all 6 first quarter points. Marjoni Tate ’21 got things going in the second quarter scoring 8 of his team high 16 in the second frame. Spartans trailed by 9 heading into the half.
Spartans came out of halftime looking like a brand new team as they were aggressive and sound on defense which lead to the Rockets only scoring 4 points in the third quarter while RB scored 12.
Spartans turned it up to another gear in the final quarter and outscored McNicholas 20-12 to sweep the league leading Rockets this season. Kendall McWhorter ’21 provided the spark the Spartans needed with 7 points in the fourth quarter along with aggressive defense. Jacob Goyette ’22 was once again a beast on the boards and provided RB with ample possessions. Tate and Mason Cromer ’21 (12 points) knocked down critical free throws down the stretch to seal the deal.
